Love It or Leave It? Brazilian Blowouts

Brazilian Blowout Keratin Hair treatments are taking the world by storm. Can we curly girls really tame curls and frizz? If you have curly or frizzy hair, chances are you’ve heard of the Brazilian Keratin Blowout. The answer to hair woes for Nicole Richie, Halle Berry, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Kidman and yes, even us mainstream curly girls. Brazilian Blowout™ is the most popular keratin treatment on the market. I hear the newest formula is a light cream base with a gentle açaí scent.

There’s been questions as to whether it’s safe or not. If you are concerned, try the new formaldehyde-free formulas. The way I see it, think of all of the chemicals that have gone into perms for years, or the scalp burns curly girls have endured from chemical hair relaxers. I had my first Brazilian Blowout last year and it was not only safe, but life changing in the hair department. My hair is smooth and silky. It’s easier to manage in humidity and straightens in a mili-second vs the 45 minutes it used to take. Leaves me time to do more important things in life.

Gone are the split ends and the texture is soft and smooth. Curly hair will relax to a flat wave if air-dried, or become quick and easy to flat iron silky-smooth. It leaves beautiful body in the hair.  While it reduces bulk, it doesn’t leave hair flat, limp or stiff as seen with some other treatments. The treatment is non-damaging if applied and processed correctly.

It actually improves the condition of the hair because it adds protein and flexibility, which helps prevent split ends from breaking off and new ones from happening. Make sure to ask your salon what products they use and what’s in them, so you are an informed consumer.

Cost may be prohibitive to some- it starts around $200. We do have an option for you to try – a DIY treatment called Liquid Keratin.  DIY treatments don’t last as long or work as well, but we understand it isn’t in everyone’s budget! I am literally on my way to the salon this afternoon for my Brazilian Blowout that I get every three months.

Love It or Leave It. The verdict? Love It!
